Foreign Correspondents Camp & meeting my hostfamily!

sunny 25 °C

Hi everyone!

I would like to introduce myself, my name is Michal and I am 17 years old. The Netherlands is my home country.

About 6 months ago I won a scholarship for one semester in Nova Scotia. I felt like the luckiest person in the whole world! So I realized that my dream to be an international student in Canada would come true. Because I have won the scholarship I am selected as a ‘Foreign Correspondent’, my job for this semester is to post blogs, photos, tweets and videos which I really like to do! :)

Saturday, August 27th was finally the day that I would go to Canada. I was very excited. My first flight was from Amsterdam to Toronto and then from Toronto to Halifax. When I arrived at Halifax some people from the NSISP staff were waiting for me. Together with 9 other Foreign Correspondents from all over the world we went to the camp. That night we were all very tired so we took a shower and had a good sleep.

Sunday morning we had breakfast at the cafeteria. After that we had some introductions about being a Foreign Correspondent, about video and photography, about Blog Writing and how to use Social Media. It was a very interesting morning. After lunch we went to Halifax! So I was very excited to see some of Halifax. First we had a Tour of Fortress Citadel. It was nice to see the Fortress Citadel. After the tour we had a walk on the Waterfront, that was really fun. We also had a Harbour Hopper Tour, it is a car and a boat in one. First we had a tour of Halifax with the car and after that we jumped into the water! We sailed over the water for a while. We had a delicious welcome Dinner at McKelvies Restaurant. It was the first time I tried scallops and it was really great! It was really an amazing day and we had so much fun!

Monday morning we had to finish some of our presentations in groups and after that we had to show our video and photos that we made. After lunch we got on the bus with all the Canadian students to our homestays. On our way home I talked with some nice girls who also live in Sackville, I think we will have a great time together! So that day I finally met my host family and the first time we saw and talk to each other, I knew we would have a great time together. I live in Lower Sackville with my family Mark, Tiffany, Hailey (almost 6) and Jaxon (1.5). It is so funny because we all have the feeling that we already knew each other or something. We really get along with each other. We are all very excited for the next months to come and all the memories we will share together!

With Hailey and Jaxson, love it!

I will tell you about my Canadian Highschool expierence for the next semester. I will tell you about my host family, new friends, new school, new food, new sports, new culture and a lot more! I hope you check my blog posts again! :)
